Police arrested a man on domestic violence and other charges after they investigated numerous reports of gunshots being fired from a residence in northwest St. George.
The 44-year-old man remained in Washington County Jail Friday in lieu of more than $32,000 bail on suspicion of domestic-violence enhanced counts of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault and reckless endangerment; criminal mischief; discharge of a firearm in city limits; and intoxication.
A police report says the incident began about 9 p.m. Thursday when officers patrolling near 1100 West and 1400 North heard a series of gunshots. As they investigated, police dispatchers received 911 calls reporting the shots being fired in the same area.
One caller said he had heard the shots, gone outside and found bullet strikes to his home and adjacent property.
Officers were able to narrow down the origin of the gunfire to a residence near 1200 W. Snow Canyon Parkway, where they learned the suspect had just driven away.
Moments later, dispatchers received a complaint about a disorderly male who was kicking the doors to the pharmacy inside the Albertsons store on Dixie Drive. Witnesses told police the man had left in a white Cadillac Escalade with a woman inside.
The car was soon located near 1300 North and 1200 West, heading back toward the original gunshot investigation residence. Officers pulled over the suspect and during questioning determined the man was their shooting suspect.
Police allegedly learned that the gunfire came during a dispute between the suspect and the woman. The shots were fired from the patio of the residence they shared, and while the suspect allegedly detained the woman at gunpoint, she was unharmed.
