Second carjacking in 2 days for west Salt Lake City
For the second time in as many days, a west Salt Lake City motorist has reported a carjacking.
The latest incident occurred about 8 p.m. Wednesday near 900 West and 1000 North, when the owner of a tan, 1989 model Suburu hatchback was approached by an armed man and forced out from behind the wheel.
The suspect — a 5-foot-5 Latino male wearing a black mask and a brown hooded jacket — then drove off with the vehicle.
Police said the stolen car had a Utah license plate numbered X484BB.
On Tuesday night, near 1400 W. American Ave. (1000 South), a man left his gray, 2005 Chevrolet Uplander running in his driveway. When he returned to the car, the owner was confronted by an armed man, who then drove off with the vehicle.
Citing the ongoing nature of the investigation, SLCPD detectives declined to identify what sort of weapon was used in either case.
The suspect in the Tuesday night carjacking was described as a male Latino, 20 to 30 years old, 5-foot-10 to 6 feet. He was wearing a black beanie-style cap and a black hooded sweatshirt.
That stolen vehicle's license plate is C213FZ.
Anyone with information on these incidents is asked to call SLCPD at 801-799-3000.
