For the most part, visitors to Park City and the Sundance Film Festival have been behaving themselves as the busy weekend got underway Friday and early Saturday.
"We had a busy night but, for the most part, people were on good behavior," said Park City police Capt. Phil Kirk. "We didn't have that many arrests."
The most serious incident came early Saturday morning when security alerted police to a woman who was having medical problems in the parking lot near Club Epic. Kirk said she was initially taken to the Park City Medical Center before being transferred to the Intermountain Medical Center in Murray. Kirk said police have not released her name and that the woman was in stable condition Saturday morning. Police are still investigating the cause of the medical problem.
The police official said that while Park City was extremely crowded Saturday, there did not seem to be as many problems as in past years. He praised business owners for doing a good job monitoring behavior inside their establishments.
"It's difficult to get around with the traffic," said Kirk. "Parking is at a premium. We are urging people to use public transportation. It took me almost three times as long as normal to drive in from Kimball Junction. Traffic is already backed up out to the junction."
Kirk said that many valley residents seemed to be heading to the mountains to escape the inversion. Both Park City Mountain Resort and Deer Valley were packed, which he said was unusual during Sundance. He reported beautiful weather.
Park City Mountain Resort was hosting the U.S. Grand Prix Freeskiing Championships Saturday and Sunday.
