A 42-year-old woman struck by a pickup truck in a Provo crosswalk Wednesday morning died from her injuries at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center.
Rosa Merino fatally injured while crossing westbound at the intersection of 700 N. University Avenue, about three blocks from Brigham Young University, said Provo police Lt. Mathew Siufanua. It was 6:20 a.m. and still dark when the 1987 GMC pickup driven by a 49-year-old Provo man hit her.
Initially, dispatchers were told the woman was not breathing and had no pulse. Witnesses began CPR, and when paramedics arrived they were able to find a faint pulse before the woman was taken from the scene by ambulance, Siufanua said.
However, doctors declared the woman dead at 8:20 a.m.
Police said Merino was a single mother with three girls ages 16, 14 and 12. The children told police that their mother was walking to work at the time because their vehicle's brakes were bad.
