It started as a supposedly routine disturbance call early Tuesday morning at a St. George motel, but ended with the arrests of a Las Vegas couple on dozens of drug-related counts.

St. George police Sgt. Sam Despain said officers were called to the Ramada Inn at 1440 E. St. George Boulevard about 2 a.m. Tuesday. Staff reported that a man and woman were arguing loudly, disturbing other guests.

Once officers arrived, they became suspicious that the two were under the influence of drugs. Inside their room police found "stacks" of forged prescription slips, controlled substances and drug paraphernalia, Despain said.

The 30-year-old man and his 31-year-old companion were arrested and booked into the Washington County Jail.

He was being held on suspicion of 17 counts of fraudulently obtaining a prescriptions, along with two counts of drug possession and one count of possessing drug paraphernalia. The woman was booked in suspicion of 18 counts of prescription fraud, one count of drug possession and one count of possession drug paraphernalia.
