The New Year got off to a bad start for a Taylorsville couple.

The couple apparently got into an argument while sitting in their car outside a residence near 2500 West and Surrey Road at approximately 12:34 a.m. At some point, a gun was placed on the vehicle's dashboard. The two then began fighting over the firearm, which discharged.

The 48-year-old woman was shot in the face. She was taken to Intermountain Medical Center in serious but stable condition.

Scott Park, 51, the woman's husband, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on a charge of discharging a firearm during a domestic dispute, said Lt. Justin Hoyal, Unified Police Department spokesman. An investigation is ongoing.
