Time to start marking up that 2014 calendar.

The National Park Service and U.S. Forest Service recently released the Fee Free Dates for the New Year.

On these days the entry fees at National Park Service units are waived, but other fees, such as for camping, are still required.

The free days are designed to "encourage people to get outdoors and spend time with their friends and family in the national parks this year," a news release said.

National Park Fee Free Days include: Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Jan. 20; Presidents Day weekend, Feb. 15-17; the first weekend of National Park Week, April 19-20; National Park Service Birthday, Aug. 25; National Public Lands Day, Sept. 27, and Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

The Forest Service also will waive fees at day-use sites on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The Forest Service is also offering fee-free days on Presidents Day weekend, National Get Outdoors Day, June 14, National Public Lands Day and Veterans Day weekend, Nov. 8-11.

"Our public lands are open to everyone, and we hope these free days offer an incentive to all people to visit any of the 193 million acres of land held in trust for their enjoyment and use," U.S. Forest Service Chief Tom Tidwell said in a release.
