(Steve Griffin | The Salt Lake Tribune) Rowland Hall seventh graders Annika Pollapsek and Noah Blumenthal help people with bags of food during the annual Christmas Food Giveaway sponsored by Crossroads Urban Center at Rowland Hall School in Salt Lake City, Utah Monday, December 23, 2013. The food giveaway has been going on for decades and it is the 19th year it has been hosted by Rowland Hall. About 1,000 families received food for a Christmas dinner during the day long event.

Rowland Hall students along with their teachers, families and alumni on Monday worked with the Crossroads Urban Center’s Emergency Food Pantry to distribute holiday food bags to Utah families in need.

The group earlier had assembled about 1,400 bags containing cranberry sauce, yams, potatoes, dressing mix, green beans, and fresh fruit. Crossroads and the Utah Food Bank collected the food.

Rowland Hall, a Salt Lake City private school, has participated in the holiday food event for 19 years, according to a news release.

The youngest volunteers are 3, according to the school, while the oldest are in their 80s.
