A list of Utah's homicides in 2013. The list also includes killings that were deemed to be in self-defense or a justified use of officer force.

Theodore Beehakis, 67 • Jan. 2. Police believe Andre Pappas, 70, shot and killed his domestic partner, Beehakis, 67, before taking his own life in the living room of a Salt Lake City home.

David Urrutia, 39 • Jan. 4. Prosecutors have charged Urrutia's cousin with killing him with a blunt object inside his camp trailer in Fort Duchesne.

Kelly Simons, 38 • Jan. 9. Simons was suspected in a series of armed robberies in the Salt Lake Valley, and police say Simons exchanged gunfire with a Murray officer following one of them. Days later, police say she tried to run down a Joint Criminal Apprehension Team officer with a pickup truck, prompting an officer to shoot her.

Unidentified boy, 8 • Jan 12. A Davis County boy died from complications of a prior head injury.

Iris Rodriguez, 32 • Feb. 8. Utah Highway Patrol troopers found Felipe Rodriguez, 37, and his wife, Iris, dead from apparent gunshot wounds to their heads inside an SUV in an apparent murder-suicide.

Shaniel Donaldson, 32 • Feb. 10. Donaldson's husband called a dispatcher to say he had just shot his wife and was about to turn the gun on himself. Carbon County SWAT officers entered the Price home and found the Donaldsons dead in the master bedroom.

Omar Jarman, 35 • Feb. 12. Jarman was one of three people in a Midvale home. The shooter went from room to room, firing at the victims. The shootings were methodical, and perhaps selective, police have said.

Shontay Young, 34 • Feb. 12. Young was one of three people in a Midvale home. The shooter went from room to room, firing at the victims. The shootings were methodical, and perhaps selective, police have said.

Danielle Lucero, 26 • Feb. 12. Lucero was one of three people in a Midvale home. The shooter went from room to room, firing at the victims. The shootings were methodical, and perhaps selective, police have said.

Diann Bailey, 59 • Feb. 15. Officers arrived at a Cedar City home to find Bailey suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. She was taken to the hospital and later died. An acquaintance was charged with killing her, as well as a man who was also in the home.

Jeffrey Hardy, 52 • Feb. 15. Officers arrived at a Cedar City home to find Hardy's body. He had been shot twice. An acquaintance of a woman he was at the home with was charged with killing them.

Jeramy Olsen, 31 • Feb. 16. Police say that Olsen died from serious head injuries he received in a fight with a man in St. George.

Brett Knight, 33 • Feb. 25. Knight, a bank robbery suspect, fled from Draper and Lehi police. As Knight drove north on Interstate 15, troopers and motorists reported seeing a gun in his truck and said he allegedly pointed it at them. Police stopped Knight in Davis County, where he got out holding a handgun, exchanged heated words with officers, raised his gun and allegedly pointed it at deputies. Four of them opened fire.

Jesus Velez, 42 • March 10. Velez's roommate was charged with shooting the West Valley City man "at least six" times with a handgun, hitting him twice in the head and four times elsewhere on his body. According to witness statements recorded by West Valley police, Velez and his roommate had been "feuding," and the roommate had threatened Velez earlier that day.

Ronnie Ontiveros, 37 • March 19. Officers say they fired on Ontiveros after he allegedly first shot at them while trying to flee the scene of a raid at a Salt Lake City home, which was targeting a fugitive acquaintance of his.

Teresa Scott, 47 • March 23. According to investigators, Scott's husband called 911 and told dispatchers that he shot his wife and she was dead. Scott identified himself to the dispatcher, according to court records, and was later arrested.

Gregorio Campos, 33 • March 25. Campos' girlfriend's son confessed to shooting the man in while he slept. Grand County Attorney Andrew Fitzgerald has said that the son was "a pawn" of sorts in the Moab murder, influenced by three or four adults who had ill will for Campos and wanted him dead.

Cody Ramseyer, 49 • March 29. Ramseyer was shot after crashing his GMC Denali near the Willard Bay exit on Interstate 15. The Utah Highway Patrol, one of four police agencies that had chased him at speeds of more than 100 mph through Davis, Weber and Box Elder counties, said Ramseyer got out of his car after the crash and exhibited "threatening" behavior toward police. A trooper and a Pleasant View officer deployed Tasers to try to subdue him. A Willard officer eventually shot him.

Ryker Petersen, 5 months • April 5. Police say Ryker's father shot his infant son in the head with a rifle at his American Fork home, and a relative stopped him before he turned the gun on himself. Investigators suspect the father had been planning to kill Ryker and himself for about a month.

Sione Fakatoufifita, 19 • April 13. Fakatoufifita was shot multiple times outside a Salt Lake City convenience store. Police allege that a man killed Fakatoufifita because they were members of rival gangs. Fakatoufifita was planning to get married in May.

Toni Cavagnaro, 40 • April 14. Police believe Cavagnaro's boyfriend shot her at their Oakley home, then turned the gun on himself. Cavagnaro's sister said that the couple had been together for about 10 years and at one point were engaged, but the relationship broke down a month before the shooting.

Maxine Langston, 78 • April 15. Langston died of head injuries she suffered in 2012 at her Millcreek home. She had been struck several times with a hard object.

Rolando Cardona-Gueton, 62 • April 20. Cardona-Gueton was found as if he had hanged himself in his Gunnison prison cell. Further investigation led investigators to believe that his cellmate had killed him.

Elvis Olsen, 22 • April 21. Olsen was found shot to death near Fort Duchesne on the Uintah and Ouray Indian Reservation, and his Mazda was gone. When investigators caught up to a fugitive who had skipped bail, they said they found him driving Olsen's Mazda. Both men were believed to be in the Uintah County Jail at the same time, but they did not share a cell.

Ricardo Portillo, 46 • April 26. A teenage soccer player allegedly punched Portillo, a referee, during a soccer match in Taylorsville. Portillo died at the hospital after a week in a coma.

Alex Vidinhar, 10 • May 22. A 15-year-old boy was arrested after his adopted younger brothers, Alex and Benjie Vidinhar, were found stabbed to death in the family's West Point home.

Jeff Foote, 39 • May 25. The Washington Terrace man was shot and killed by a Weber County a sheriff's deputy while police were trying to talk him out of taking his own life. As a deputy and Foote spoke, Foote apparently discharged his gun and an officer returned fire.

Chanse Drew, 2 • June 9. Police suspect that Chanse's father shot him at his Spanish Fork home before turning the gun on himself.

Arla Christensen, 85 • June 20. Christensen's grandson-in-law is believed to have beaten her to death with a golf club. The man's wife called 911 to report the attack and that her husband was having a psychotic episode, according to the Sandy police.

Melvin Rowley, 79 • June 26. Police say that Rowley's stepson arrived at their Orem house, where an argument concerning alcohol ensued, and the stepson hit Rowley several times. Rowley told his wife he was fine,but she later found him unconscious and not breathing. Despite efforts to revive him, Rowley died at the hospital.

Christopher Miller, 52 • July 6. Miller was found dead in the living room at his Vernal apartment, having died from being strangled and hit in the head. Since no one had forced entry into the residence, police suspect that Miller knew his assailant.

Debra Eatchel, 53 • July 22. Eatchel was shot by her ex-husband outside of his Salt Lake City home. He then turned the gun on himself.

LeRoy Martinez, 56 • July 27. A man died after he was choked in a fight in Ogden. Charges were never filed, according to the police.

Anthony Hernandez, 18 • July 27. Hernandez was shot while walking on the street in West Valley City. Police said Hernandez's death was gang-related.

Mary Ann Day, 47 • July 29. St. George police determined that Day's husband killed her in a murder-suicide.

David Gonzales, 28 • Aug. 31. Gonzales' body was discovered on the sidewalk after Salt Lake City dispatchers received a 911 hang-up call. The suspect turned himself in to police by the end of the day.

Robert Soto Jr., 26 • Aug. 31. Ogden police found Soto, who had been shot multiple times, lying on the sidewalk. Police are still looking for a suspect. Witnesses reported hearing an argument and gunshots in the early morning hours of the shooting.

Derek Johnson, 32 • Sept. 1. Johnson, a Draper police sergeant, stopped to investigate an oddly parked car when the car's owner shot him, police say. Johnson then turned the gun on himself and his girlfriend, though both of them survived, according to police.

Thai Le, 44 • Sept. 2. Le and his girlfriend were at a Labor Day barbecue in West Valley City when the two got into an argument, according to court documents. At some point that night, Le's girlfriend retrieved a knife from the kitchen and stabbed him in the back, the documents add.

Eli Rutchey, 2 • Sept. 4. Deputies found out about the Cache County toddler's death shortly after his mother went to Logan Regional Hospital for emergency medical treatment for herself. She later told officers she had suffocated her son, court documents add; she had then tried to kill herself by overdosing on medication.

Mario Saucedo, 23 • Sept. 8. Saucedo, of Ogden, was shot during an argument with a man at a Roy house party, police said. Police say the shooting was gang-related.

Alix Norman, 16 • Sept. 10. Norman's step-father killed her and the family dog at their Brigham City home, before killing himself, according to the police.

Aliyah Wild, 11 months • Sept. 17. The boyfriend of Aliyah's mother was arrested under suspicion of shaking Aliyah while he was watching her. She later died at the hospital. The boyfriend admitted to shaking her for 30 to 40 seconds "to get her to stop crying," according to his charges.

Rickey Magnuson, 48 • Sept. 25. Magnuson's roommate told police that the two heard a knock at the door of their West Valley home. When Magnuson answered, a neighbor stepped in and thrust a knife into Magnuson's abdomen, according to the police.

Travis Davis, 37 • Sept. 29. Grantsville police say they went to Davis' home on a welfare check after he had threatened to harm himself. When officers arrived, he was barricaded inside and eventually came out carrying a gun, according to the police. At some point while interacting with Davis, officers opened fire.

Shallen Lestrick, 34 • Oct. 2. Lestrick was shot and killed in Ogden. Though police exhausted all of their leads, no one was ever charged.

Bryan Mellor, 59 • Oct. 9. Cedar City police found Mellor bloodied and unconscious on a sidewalk outside an apartment complex. It was unclear what precipitated the assault, but witnesses told police they saw an acquaintance of Mellor kicking his head into a tubular steel railing, and also "stomping" and "jumping" on the victim's head and torso, according to court documents.

Nicholas Monte, 23 • Oct. 9. Monte was shot and killed when he and three other men went to a Taylorsville home "intending to rob a homeowner of money and drugs," according to the police. The homeowner is believed to have shot Monte but was not charged with his death, according to court documents.

Christian Arenas, 19 • Oct. 13. Arenas was in a car in Salt Lake City when a suspect armed with a handgun opened fire on the vehicle, according to the police. Two men were eventually charged with his death. Investigators believe the suspects belong to the Norteños gang, while Arenas and someone else in the car had affiliations with the rival Sureños gang.

Donald Loomer, 64 • Oct. 13. Loomer was found beaten in a LaVerkin driveway and died at a Las Vegas hospital. Police say the suspect eventually told them that he hit Loomer with a stick after Loomer hit him in the face with a coffee cup.

Robert Ebere, 29 • Oct. 30. Ebere was one of three men who West Valley City police say tried to break into a home. Ebere died of injuries he sustained when male residents fought with him.

Mildred Kunz, 78 • Nov. 13. After Kunz's family had not heard from her or her husband for some time, officers checked on the Holladay couple at their home to find them dead from gunshot wounds in an apparent murder-suicide. Unified police declined to specify the location of the wounds, though they did say that a firearm was found near Kunz's husband.

Taylor Wheeler, 12 • Nov. 15. Wheeler and 15-year-old Dayton Gessell were found in the basement of a Daybreak home shortly after gunshots were heard. South Jordan police later determined, based on the autopsies, that the shooting was a murder-suicide.

Rupert Miley, 42 • Nov. 19. The homicide — a case that initially appeared to be a fatal car crash — was sparked by Miley's failure to pay a drug debt, according to court documents.

Willie Hollingsworth, 49 • Nov. 20. Hollingsworth was found bleeding from a knife wound to his abdomen near the Road Home shelter, at 210 S. Rio Grande. Leads in the case remained elusive for detectives. A 911 call brought police to the scene, but when they arrived Hollingsworth had already been taken to a hospital, where he died before they could talk with him.

Jill Pepper, 37 • Dec. 22. Layton police believe that Pepper's husband shot her at their home before killing himself. The couple's 20-year-old daughter called 911 to report that her parents were arguing and that she heard what sounded like loud bangs.
