A state senator claims a Utah Transit Authority bus sideswiped him Tuesday morning and kept going.
Sen. Todd Weiler, R-Woods Cross tweeted at UTA that a bus turning north from 500 South to 1300 East in Salt Lake City clipped one of his mirrors at 8:30 a.m. The driver did not stop, Weiler added.
The collision only left a scratch on the mirror, Weiler said in a phone interview. He added that he probably will not file a report about it.
However, he mentioned that about a minute before the collision, the bus had tried to merge into his lane and almost hit him then. It appears the driver had not seen him and waved an apology shortly before the actual accident happened.
In its own tweet, UTA responded to the senator with an apology and asked him to file a report about the incident through its website.
"Our buses are supposed to stop for any accident, but they are large vehicles — if it's a scratch, it's possible that the driver was not aware that it occurred," sid Remi Barron, UTA spokesman. The company will be in touch with Weiler to make sure the situation is resolved properly.
