The Salt Lake City Police Department will mark the first anniversary of its "Coffee with a Cop" outreach program on Thursday.

The one-year-marking event will be 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Red Moose Coffee Co., 1693 S. 900 East. During that time, anyone who comes in and strikes up a conversation with representatives from the SLCPD's Community Intelligence division will receive a free cup of regular coffee.

The monthly outreach program was envisioned as a way to provide an informal format to discuss public safety and law enforcement issues within the city's diverse communities.

It is sponsored by Salt Lake City, Local First Utah and the Downtown Alliance organizations.
