Four people suffered smoke inhalation, and a pet cat was killed in a condominium fire Saturday in Centerville.

The fire erupted about 11:55 a.m. at the Cedar Springs Condominiums, 88 W. 50 South, said the condominium manager, Brad Theuson. Two engines, a ladder truck and 12 firefighters from South Davis Metro Fire battled the flames.

The fire may have started in an upstairs bedroom of one unit, Theuson said. The occupants of the nine other units were forced to evacuate.

The families in the damaged unit and one adjacent unit that sustained water and smoke damage had to be displaced, said South Weber Metro Fire Chief Jeff Bassett.

A teenage girl was in the home at the time, and four people were treated for smoke inhalation, Bassett said. No serious injuries were reported. But a pet cat in the unit was killed in the flames, he said.

Investigators had not determined a cause of the fire by Saturday afternoon.
