Layton fire crews battled a blaze early Saturday that destroyed a home under construction.
The fire at the unfinished home at 432 N. 3475 West was reported about 2 a.m. by a passer-by, said Layton Fire spokesman Doug Bitton. The family who owns the house had not yet moved in, and no injuries were reported.
By the time firefighters arrived, flames were seen shooting about 20 feet from the top of the home, Bitton said. It took crews nearly an hour to get the blaze under control. Three engines, a firetruck and 26 firefighters were dispatched to fight the fire.
The cause of the fire was under investigation Saturday, but authorities were looking into the possibility that portable heaters inside the home could be to blame.
"We have to make sure to remind the public this time of year that portable heaters are such a high fire risk," Bitton said. "Keep things away from them at least 3 feet from all directions."
