Two semitrailer trucks collided head-on early Tuesday in southern Utah, killing an Arizona man.

Michael Eckerman, 29, of Glendale, Ariz., was driving a semi carrying produce north on State Road 191 near Bluff about 12:45 a.m., when he crossed the center line and collided with a southbound mail truck.

"Both trailers were ripped open, and their contents were scattered," Utah Highway Patrol troopers wrote in a statement Tuesday afternoon.

Eckerman was killed in the crash. The driver of the southbound semi suffered minor injuries from flying glass; he was taken to a hospital.

Postal service employees went to the scene to try to recover the scattered mail, UHP spokesoman Todd Royce said.

Weather does not appear to have been a factor, troopers wrote. Both drivers were using their safety belts.
