A registered sex offender accused of exposing himself to a mother and her two young children as they walked into a Salt Lake City church was sentenced Monday to jail, followed by probation and mental health treatment.
Daniel John Allgood, 31, pleaded guilty in September to lewdness involving a child and lewdness by a registered sex offender — both third-degree felonies that carried a prison term of up to five years apiece.
Third District Judge Ann Boyden sentenced Allgood to 300 days in jail on Monday and also ordered that he undergo treatment at Valley Mental Health.
Allgood will serve three years of probation, during which he will be expected to continue counselling and adhere to whatever mental health treatment is prescribed, according to court documents. He will be subject to random drug and alcohol tests and a curfew.
Allgood, who was arrested shortly after the November 2011 incident, has struggled with competency and mental health throughout the more than two years of court proceedings.
According to court documents, at least two people saw Allgood expose himself near 240 E. South Temple.
Allgood is a registered sex offender, having pleaded guilty in August 2000 to sexual abuse of a child, a second-degree felony.
In 2010, Allgood pleaded guilty to failing to register as a sex offender, a class A misdemeanor. He also pleaded guilty that year to class A misdemeanor attempted lewdness, for a lewd incident in Memory Grove.
