11 families displaced by fire in Brigham City
Eleven families were displaced after a fire at an apartment complex Monday night in Brigham City.
The fire was reported about 7:30 p.m. as a mattress fire; when crews arrived, flames were shooting through the roof and windows, said Brigham City police Lt. Dennis Vincent.
The fire spread to the attic and then to other units of the L-shaped building, Vincent said. Eight units sustained heavy damage and my not be habitable again, he said. Three other units in a nearby building were evacuated during the response. No one was injured.
The Red Cross and LDS church were helping the displaced families, Vincent said.
Investigators did not know the cause of the fire as of 11 p.m. Monday; crews planned to inspect the building at dawn Tuesday to determine a cause and the value of the damage.
