A former Southern Utah University football player was sentenced to probation after he pleaded no contest to allegations that he had child pornography on his laptop.
Cameron Anthony Morgan, 23, was charged last year in 5th District Court with 10 counts of second-degree felony sexual exploitation of a minor for allegedly downloading child porn in 2010.
Last week, Morgan pleaded no contest to one amended charge of attempted distribution of pornographic materials, a class A misdemeanor. The remaining charges were dismissed.
On Tuesday, a judge suspended a year jail sentence in favor of 12 months probation for Morgan.
According to the plea agreement, Morgan admitted that he used peer-to-peer file sharing software to download at least one pornographic image, and had planned to offer that image to others through the same software. The court documents don't specify whether the image contained adult or child pornography.
According to court documents, Morgan has told investigators that the child porn was accidentally downloaded in a larger batch of adult pornography he obtained through LimeWire, a peer-to-peer file sharing site.
"Morgan said that in using LimeWire to search for pornography, he would come across child pornography," an investigator wrote in court documents. "He said that if he did download child pornography, it was not on purpose."
During a search of Morgan's laptop, investigators found nine images and one video that contained depictions of children age 8 to 12 years old involved in sexual acts.
