Salt Lake City police say a credit union robber made his getaway in a taxi cab.

The man walked into the University First Credit Union at 490 E. 500 South about 2 p.m. on Tuesday, demanded cash from a teller and then fled the building on foot.

No weapon was reported to have been seen.

Witnesses thought they saw the suspect run eastbound to a nearby Smith's Marketplace parking lot, where he got into a cab. He was believed to have gotten out at 400 S. Exchange Place (355 South), and then disappeared.

Police Sgt. Robin Heiden said detectives were still trying to put together a more complete suspect description, but the man was believed to have been wearing a checkered shirt, black beanie cap and sun glasses.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call SLCPD at 801-799-3000.
