Judge tosses some fraud charges against former Provo official
Provo • A judge has dropped some but not all of the fraud charges against a former city councilman in Provo accused of real-estate fraud.
The Daily Herald of Provo reports that the statute of limitations expired on three of ten charges against Steve Turley.
4th District Judge James Taylor dismissed the three charges Monday that accused Turley of selling four homes with accessory apartments that were prohibited by local zoning.
Court records give an offense date of 2006, but charges weren't filed until 2011.
Turley, 44, still faces charges of mortgage, deed and lease fraud in the sale of homes and real-estate trades. Authorities say the victims included one person over 65 years old and another with a mental impairment.
