A man was fighting for his life after a hit-and-run crash in Salt Lake City.

The man was walking Monday on 1000 West near 1700 South about 6:50 p.m. when a southbound car struck him, carrying him about 75 feet, said Salt Lake City police Lt. Carl Merino. The car then left the scene, Merino said.

Witnesses described it as a midsize silver car with damage to the windshield and possibly to the passenger-side mirror.

The man suffered life-threatening injuries, Merino said.

Police were unable to identify the victim. He is white, about 50, with silver hair, Merino said. He was wearing a light brown Levi jacket and a cowboy hat.

Anyone with information about the victim or the car may call police at 801-799-3000.
