West Valley City man stabbed house guest, police say
First Published Nov 16 2013 03:13 pm • Last Updated Nov 16 2013 03:15 pm

Police say a West Valley man stabbed a friend after an argument Saturday morning.

The 36-year-old was booked into Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of aggravated assault. Police say he was drinking with two male friends at his house near 4000 S. 3100 West when his girlfriend came home from her job at a bar, and the two then began to argue. The man’s guests intervened and "told him to knock it off," said West Valley City police Lt. Lamont Cox, and for at least a while he calmed down.

But a second fight broke out about 7:51 a.m., and police say the suspect grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed one of the men, a 19-year-old, in the back.

The 19-year-old’s injuries were not life-threatening, Cox said. All three were transported to the hospital, and the suspect received stitches to his lip.

Cox said the other two were unlikely to be charged for assault.
