A 25-year-old man was in serious condition at Intermountain Medical Center on Saturday afternoon after police say he jumped in front of a semitrailer near train tracks at 2300 W. California Ave. in Salt Lake City.

"For whatever reason, he decided to jump in front of a semi," White said. "We don't know why."

The driver of the truck was unharmed, said Salt Lake City police Lt. Scott White. The road, near a train crossing, was closed for about 30 minutes.
