A former fire captain in Park City was charged Friday with embezzling more than $30,000.
Randy Scott, who is a former captain in the Park City Fire District, is facing three second-degree felonies for theft.
The charges, filed in 3rd District Court, come after an investigation revealed that beginning in 2011 he altered his paid leave to receive money he never earned, according to the Summit County Sheriff's Office. Court documents reveal that the misrepresented hours came to light in August when a human resources officer discovered discrepancies in Scott's requests for time off.
The HR officer then conducted an audit back to 2010, the documents state, and discovered Scott had taken "significantly more paid time off than he was entitled to." The first time Scott misrepresented his hours happened June 16, 2011.
