Accident in Morgan County closes Interstate 84
First Published Nov 14 2013 05:32 pm • Last Updated Nov 15 2013 08:44 am

A distracted driver and a spinning mini van caused a temporary shutdown on Interstate 84 in Morgan County Thursday evening.

The 2006 Toyota Sienna, driven by a 40-year-old woman, struck a barrier near the small town of Mountain Green about 5:04 p.m., according to Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. John Ely. The woman was on her phone when she crashed, Ely added.

After hitting the barrier, the van spun from the left side of the highway into the right lane. The woman was not injured and the van did not strike any other vehicles, Ely said.

Police diverted traffic into the town while they cleared the accident.

The Utah Department of Transportation tweeted that all lanes were cleared by about 5:30 p.m. Ely said the van was still on the shoulder of the freeway about 5:50 p.m., but that lane closures had ended.
