Say goodbye to balmy autumn; here comes plummeting temperatures, rain and snow.
The National Weather Service said Friday's highs along the Wasatch Front will dip from 10 to 15 degrees from Thursday's temperatures in the upper-50s, after Thursday's partly cloudy skies turn wet and gray on Friday ahead of a cold, snowy weekend.
Southern Utahns will escape the severity of the changing forecast. The daytime temperatures on Friday will be in the mid-60s, a 5-7 degree shift downward from Thursday's highs. Utah's Dixie expected partly cloudy skies, but no precipitation.
Forecasters did place the entire state under a Special Weather Statement, warning that the cooling trend toward wintry conditions would extend into next week.
The first of two cold storm systems originating in western Canada was to settle over the region early Friday, with snow developing across the northern and central valleys. The southern Wasatch and central mountains looked for several inches of snow, with 1-2 inches of the white stuff expected to accumulate in northern Utah valleys.
The second storm system was to roll into the region Saturday night with heavier snowfall predicted for both valley and mountain locales in the northern half of the state.
