A chemical spill in West Valley City on Thursday snarled traffic trying to get on Interstate 215.
The spill sent between 50 and 100 gallons of aluminum sulfate onto the on-ramp at 3500 South, according West Valley City Fire Marshal Bob Fitzgerald. The accident happened when a truck went around a corner about 3:48 p.m. and a 300-gallon barrel fell off the back. It did not damage the road and there were no injuries.
West Valley City Hazmat crews arrived after 4:30 p.m. and closed the on-ramp while they cleaned up the chemical. The cleanup was finished by about 5:50 p.m.
Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce said the chemical is "necessary a hazardous material" but it could be corrosive.
No evacuations were ordered as a result of the spill.
