Christie wins, hints at future bid. House approves subpoena for Swallow records. Romney supports 2026 Games for SLC.

Happy Wednesday. In a state where Democrats outnumber Republicans by 700,000 people, New Jersey's GOP Gov. Chris Christie won re-election on Tuesday, offering hope for his party elsewhere and possibly hinting at a higher office he could ultimately obtain. Christie won a majority of women and Hispanics, and showed the kind of candidate the Republicans should embrace. [NYTimes] More election results below.

Election results: In West Valley City, Ron Bigelow defeated Karen Lang with 60 percent of the vote to be the new mayor. In Districts 2 and 4, incumbents Steve Buhler and Steve Vincent won their races, and Lars Nordfelt nabbed an at-large seat. [Trib] [DNews]

-> Voters in the Jordan School District rejected the proposed $495 million bond to build and remodel schools. Taylorsville voted for the city to join the Unified Fire Service Area. [Trib]

-> Stan Penfold will return to the the Salt Lake City Council, which will also welcome three fresh faces. In District 1, James Rogers defeated Kevin Parke, Erin Mendenhall beat Bill Davis in District 5 and in Sugar House's District 7, Lisa Ramsey Adams beat Kevin Paulson. [Trib]

-> Councilman Jon Pike will be the new mayor of St. George after defeating 20-year-incumbent Daniel McArthur with 61 percent of the votes. [Trib]

-> Seven of Salt Lake County's incumbent mayors were re-elected. South Jordan and Taylorsville chose not to keep their mayors. [Trib]

-> In Carbon County, the two cities of East Carbon and Sunnyside will now be one as residents voted to consolidate their cities. [DNews]

In other news: Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid won't say whether Jon Huntsman Sr. was his source on Mitt Romney's taxes. Sr. has denied it but Reid won't say where his info came from. [Politico]

-> New Jersey became to fifth state to adopt minimum wage increases into its Constitution, raising its minimum wage a dollar above the federal standard and automatically increasing it with inflation. [WaPost]

-> President Barack Obama's approval rating is hovering near an all-time low as 39 percent of Americans like what he's doing in the White House but 53 percent disapprove according to a recent Gallup poll. [CNN]
