An Ogden man could face up to life in prison for allegedly befriending a girl to sexually abuse her.
The 65-year-old man was charged Monday in 2nd District Court with aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony.
A teacher at an Ogden elementary school saw the suspect kiss a 10-year-old student on the lips, according to a probable cause statement. An investigator interviewed the girl at the Children’s Justice Center, where the girl said the man — a stranger to her — had befriended her and gave her rides to school.
She added that one time this month, the man kissed her and touched her inappropriately after driving her to school, according to the statement.
The man said he met the girl while walking down a street and admitted to giving her rides to school, buying her things, giving her money, as well as to the inappropriate touching, according to the statement. He also said that he is attracted to young girls and that in the past, he had accessed child pornography involving 13-year-olds.
Ogden police arrested the man and booked him into the Weber County Jail.
A search of Utah court records shows no prior criminal history for the man, aside from some traffic violations.
