A Grantsville High School teacher is accused of committing a sex act in front of a child in the steam room at a Murray gym.

In charges filed earlier this month, police wrote that Salvatore Degraffenreidt and another man went into the steam room Aug. 13 at 5445 S. 900 East, which is the Sports Mall in Murray. A 12-year-old was using the steam room at the time, police wrote.

The boy reported that Degraffenreidt, 30, and another man, 47, sat naked next to each other in the steam room and masturbated.

Both men were charged with misdemeanor lewdness.

Tooele School District Superintendent Scott Rogers said Degraffenreidt was hired in 2008 at Tooele High School. He transferred to Grantsville High School in 2010, where most recently he taught choir.

According to Rogers, school officials placed Degraffenreidt on leave Oct. 21, the day police notified them of the investigation. He will remain on leave until the case concludes.

Rogers added that there have been no past complaints about Degraffenreidt and there is no indication that any students were victimized or that crimes were committed on school property.
