The Utah Highway Patrol says a Mapleton man died in a crash along an Interstate 15 frontage road near Springville Thursday night.

UHP Cpl. Todd Johnson said that Cameron Warren Foster, 23, was southbound when he lost control of his 2004 Nissan 350Z coupe near 225 W. Frontage Road.

"[He slid] off the road to the right, impacting a wooden power pole on the driver’s side door. The power pole was cut in two and ripped out of the ground," Johnson stated on Friday.

Foster’s vehicle then slammed into a large, empty flatbed trailer parked on the right shoulder. The crash left downed power lines draped over the wreckage; Foster was dead at the scene.

Johnson said excessive speed was believed a factor and Foster apparently was not wearing a seat belt. Drugs or alcohol were not believed involved.
