The Utah Highway Patrol are asking for help identifying a motorist who struck a semi-truck driver on Interstate 80 Friday morning.

The truck driver, 53-year-old Mark Hoggard of Sandy, died Friday afternoon.

According to UHP, Hoggard was driving a semi-truck with two tankers eastbound on I-80, and was exiting on 600 South when he hit a barrier on the left side Friday morning.

After the accident, Hoggard got out of his truck and walked west behind the crash scene, possibly to warn other motorists. He was then hit by a vehicle, according to UHP.

The vehicle that struck Hoggard did not stay at the scene of the accident, and no one has called police about the accident, according to UHP. Investigators believe a Geo Metro, model year 1995-2001, with a missing left mirror may have been involved. If anyone has any information, they are asked to call UHP dispatch at 801-887-3800.
