A semi-tanker rig hauling diesel fuel overturned and caught fire Thursday morning on Interstate 84 in northeastern Utah's Weber Canyon.
The semi's driver suffered minor injuries in the 7:50 a.m. accident between mile posts 107-108, near the Morgan County town of Taggart. He was taken to McKay-Dee Hospital for treatment, the Utah Highway Patrol said.
Westbound lanes were closed beginning at Henefer while eastbound traffic was halted near Morgan with UHP diverting traffic to alternate routes through late Thursday morning. Some lane closures continued until 8 p.m., when crews finally managed to clear all the fuel and debris.
UHP Cpl. Todd Johnson said the big rig, hauling two tanker trailers, was traveling westbound when it attempted to pass another semi on a curve.
The rig's rear tanker trailer toppled, spilling thousands of gallons of fuel onto all lanes of the highway before catching fire.
UHP said emergency responders secured the scene and decided to let the spilled fuel burn off.
