West Valley City police were looking for four men who opened fire on a newspaper delivery man early Tuesday morning.

Police Sgt. Jason Hauer said the delivery man had just exited his vehicle to toss papers onto the porches of homes in the area of 5300 West and 4100 South when a older model silver Honda pulled up.

The suspects, described as four Latino men, jumped out and allegedly started shouting incomprehensibly at the delivery man and then fired several shots. The delivery man was not struck, but his car and two nearby homes were hit by bullets before the suspects sped from the scene.

Hauer said no injuries were reported, though nearby Carl Sandburg Elementary School was briefly locked down as a precaution while officers searched the area.

The motive for the attack was unknown as the investigation had just begun.

The suspects remained at large.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call West Valley City police at 801-840-4000.
