A semi-trailer rig crashed with another vehicle and then overturned early Thursday morning, slowing the commute into the Salt Lake Valley in the area of Interstate 15 near Centerville.
Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Todd Johnson said the northbound produce-hauling big rig went out of control after it collided with a 2008 Suzuki sedan, also northbound, about 4:30 a.m. The semi then careened into the median, rolled over the guardrail and came to rest in the southbound lanes.
The wreck blocked three lanes. Both the semi's and the Suzuki's drivers were taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Johnson said fatigue experienced by the Suzuki's driver appeared to be a factor in the accident, but details of the collision remained under investigation.
UHP said that full traffic flow resumed by 7 a.m. in the northbound lanes, where the Suzuki had been blocking traffic. It took troopers and emergency crews several hours more to clear the southbound lanes.
