Kane County deputy shot at firing range released from hospital
A Kane County sheriff's deputy was home and recovering Tuesday after being shot in the legs when a fellow deputy's firearm discharged at the end of a training exercise.
Chief Sheriff's Deputy Tracy Glover said that the 29-year-old, seven-year veteran of the sheriff's office was expected to make a full recovery.
The wounded deputy was taken to the Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George Monday afternoon after the incident. Doctors reportedly determined the bullet had passed through the calves of both his legs, missing bone and nerve tissue; he was treated and released.
Glover said that while the shooting appeared to clearly be accidental, a mandatory review of the incident was under way. The deputy whose firearm discharged remained on duty as of Tuesday.
About 10 sheriff's deputies were at a shooting range near the Kanab airport when, at the conclusion of quarterly firearms qualifications training, the handgun discharged.
