A Kane County sheriff's deputy was shot during firearms training Monday in Kanab.

The shooting occurred about noon at the sheriff's training range, near the Kanab Airport, said Sgt. Alan Alldredge. A deputy was shot in both legs, apparently by one bullet, Alldredge said. The shooting is believed to have been an accident; no foul play is suspected.

Alldredge would not comment on who is believed to have shot the deputy, or whether he is believed to have shot himself. About 10 deputies were target shooting at the range for their quarterly firearms qualifications.

The victim was taken to a hospital in Kanab and then taken by helicopter to another hospital, Alldredge said. His condition was not known, but he was conscious and alert when he left the range, Alldredge said.
