Police arrested a knife-wielding suspect after he allegedly tried to break into an east Salt Lake City home over the weekend to assault a man living in the residence.
The 48-year-old North Dakota suspect did not manage to enter the home at 1322 E. Allen Park Drive (1865 South) about 10:15 p.m. Saturday. Officers responding to a 911 call located him a short time later and took him into custody without further incident.
Police said a knife, marijuana and a pipe were confiscated from the man when he was handcuffed. He was questioned and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail early Sunday morning on suspicion of first-degree felony aggravated burglary, third-degree aggravated assault and misdemeanor drug and drug paraphernalia counts.
Salt Lake City police Detective Rick Wall said officers had been called to the same area on a disturbing the peace complaint involving the same suspect on Friday night, but the man could not be located at that time.
The motive for the man's actions were unclear, but it may have involved a dispute he allegedly had with the male resident involving the suspect's wife, police said.
The suspect remained in jail on Monday in lieu of $925 bond.
