Members of a West Jordan family were injured Sunday morning after a pickup lost a tire on Interstate 15 near Salt Lake City.

Utah Highway Patrol troopers said the family's minivan was northbound about 11 a.m. when a southbound pickup from Idaho hauling a fifth-wheel trailer lost a tire.

The tire bounced over a 6-foot tall concrete barrier and struck the minivan's windshield.

The driver was transported to University Hospital and two of the four children inside were taken to Primary Children's Hospital. None suffered life-threatening injuries, troopers said.

The pickup continued on, unaware it had lost a tire. A witness followed the pickup until police were able to stop it.

Trooper said it appears the tire's lug nuts were not properly tightened.
