Alejandra Castro, 34, of Midvale is surprised to find out she can only get one can of baby formula for her 6-week-old son as she speaks with Bill Tibbitts, Assoc. Director for the Crossroads Urban Center. With the federal shutdown taking effect, the repercussions are being manifest from the bottom up as women who rely on the federally funded WIC (Women, Infants and Children) are unable to get baby formula, which is where Castro normally gets a voucher for nine cans a month. It will be three days before she can return for another can, which means time and money traveling back and forth.
