A baby boy injured in a four-vehicle car accident in Murray on Friday died Saturday afternoon.

The Unified Police Department announced his death of 3-month-old Dayton Cook through its Twitter feed about 6 p.m. An erroneous report earlier Saturday from UPD said Dayton had died earlier in the day, but the boy remained on life support.

The child, whose father suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and whose mother was in fair condition Friday night, was in a red SUV that was rear-ended by a white SUV near 4220 S. State St. at 4:19 p.m. Friday. The driver of the white SUV, 72, then drove off the road and into Little Cottonwood Creek, according to authorities.

That driver was also in serious condition Friday. Authorities said he was submerged in cold water, which was about 2 feet deep and moving slowly. Two other vehicles, a red Chevrolet Impala and a parked Nissan, were also involved in the wreck.
