Park City police urge ski, snowboard registration
Forecasts for colder weather and mountain snowfall means the 2013-2014 ski season is near; so are ski and snowboard thieves.
In the Wasatch Mountains resort community of Park City, police are urging outdoor winter sports enthusiasts to help deal with thefts by registering their gear.
This marks the sixth year for the ski and snowboard registration program in Park City, and PCPD Capt. Phil Kirk says it has been very successful. Only one incident of registered gear being stolen has been reported since the program was launched in 2006.
During the past six years, nearly 2,000 sets of skis and snowboards have been registered with Park City police.
Registration is offered at the PCPD's 2060 Park Avenue offices during regular business hours, and registration booths also will occasionally be set up at area ski resorts. Gear can also be registered online at the parkcity.org website.
Those completing the free registration online will be sent the registration stickers through the mail.
