Fixing Utah's notorious air quality is the topic of discussion at a Weber State University forum Thursday featuring outgoing Lt. Gov. Greg Bell and Alan Matheson, the governor's environmental adviser.
"Let's Clear the Air" is the first panel for Weber's yearlong Engaged Learning Series, which has the theme of the importance of air quality this year. Next year takes on food. Thursday's event starts at noon in the Shepherd Union's ballroom C on the Ogden campus.
Bell and Matheson will discuss the current status of air quality both locally and globally and methods the state is pursuing to clean the air, which sometimes breaches standards for ozone in the summer and particulate in the winter along the Wasatch Front.
Also to be discussed are Utah's forthcoming State Implementation Plan, or SIP, which is to be aired at a series of public hearings next week, and the Utah Clean Air Partnership. The speakers will also unveil forthcoming legislation and the public process for evaluating additional strategies.
