Unified Police seek gunman who fired at Midvale motel clerk
Police on Friday were looking for an armed and dangerous suspect who fired a handgun at a clerk during a holdup at a Midvale motel.
Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal said the gunman described as white, thin, 5-foot-10 to 6-foot and wearing a dark gray or black hooded sweatshirt pulled over his face walked into the Super 8 Motel, 7048 S. 900 East, about 1:30 a.m. Friday.
"He demanded the clerk open the [cash register] and give him money, while pointing a handgun at him. The clerk complied [but] while this was going on the suspect fired a round in the direction of the clerk."
The till apparently was empty, and that may have sparked the robber's decision to fire out of anger, police said.
The bullet reportedly just missed the clerk. No one was hurt, and the suspect fled on foot from the motel.
UPD officers, assisted by police dogs, were unable to locate the suspect during a search of the area.
UPD asks anyone with information that could lead them to the suspect to call 801-743-7000.
