A Utah County teenager was critically hurt in an ATV accident Sunday afternoon.

The 17-year-old girl — Deborah Benedict of Hobble Creek Canyon — was riding on a side-by-side-style ATV with another girl and a boy in the Left Hand Fork area of Hobble Creek Canyon when they crashed at about 5:45 p.m., the Utah County Sheriff's Office reported.

The 15-year-old boy, who had been driving, lost control of the ATV and it tipped over, sliding more than 100 feet before coming to a stop, according to the sheriff's office news release.

The 17-year-old girl suffered serious head and facial injuries and was taken to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, the release adds.

The other boy and girl had minor injuries.

Investigators believe speed was likely a factor in the crash, according to the release.
