Search and rescue teams will resume searching Friday morning for a man who was presumed to have drowned while swimming in a private reservoir in Layton.

The man was swimming with friends Thursday in the Holmes Creek Reservoir, a private body of water at 2450 S. Valley View Drive, when he started having trouble about 30 yards from the western shore, said Layton police Lt. Shawn Horton. The man, who is about 20 years old, had help from one of his friends to stay afloat, but soon both were struggling.

A father and son swam out to help them. While the friend was able to swim back to shore, at some point the man went under, Horton said.

Davis County search and rescue teams, including at least 15 personnel and five divers, searched for hours but did not find the man. The search was called off by 9 p.m., once it was too dark.

Officials were waiting until they found the man before identifying him.
