Salt Lake City police were searching Friday for the person responsible for a drive-by shooting that injured two men.

The men were standing in the grass at the edge of Jefferson Park, 150 W. Fremont Ave., at 11:37 p.m. Thursday when a white minivan approached, police said. Someone in the van fired a handgun at the men, striking each of them in the leg.

Both men were taken to a hospital, where they were expected to survive.

No suspects had been arrested Friday, and police did not yet know what prompted the shooting, said Salt Lake City Detective Veronica Montoya. Gang detectives were working on the case Friday. Investigators had found no shell casings at the scene, but at least one witness confirmed the victims' account, and several others heard the shooting, said Detective Dennis McGowan.
