A 10-year-old boy was hit by a car Wednesday morning in West Valley City.
West Valley City Sgt. Jason Hauer said the accident happened about 8:30 a.m. when the boy "darted" out into traffic. A Ford Escape then hit the boy at about 3670 S. 1300 West.
A medical helicopter flew the boy, who was initially reported to be in critical condition, to Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Hauer said.
The boy's mother later reported the youth was in good condition and resting comfortably, Granite School District said.
The boy was waiting for the bus with other children, though police do not know why he ran out into the street. Hauer said a police officer had been in the area earlier and saw kids "chasing each other playing tag," which may have been a factor.
Investigators interviewed the driver after the accident, but Hauer said initial appearances indicated the crash was just "an unfortunate accident." He added that there was no indication the driver was impaired or under the influence of controlled substances.
