One day after a Brigham City mother found her daughter and husband dead in an apparent murder-suicide police were still trying to piece together what happened, and why.
Brigham City Lt. Michael Nelsen said the bodies of Alix Norman, 16, and her stepfather, Michael Woodruff, 45, had arrived at the medical examiner's office by Wednesday morning.
Norman's mother discovered the bodies in different rooms of her home — at 545 N. 100 East — about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Police described the scene as a murder-suicide carried out by Woodruff.
Nelsen said the investigation was ongoing Wednesday, with police awaiting the results of autopsies and toxicology reports. He added that the killings were carried out with a .40-caliber Glock pistol.
But investigators Wednesday still had no idea what prompted the killings. Nelsen said police had never been to the house on domestic violence related calls and there was no note in the home. Police also did not find any evidence of substance abuse in the home, Nelson said.
"Maybe we'll never find out what happened," he added.
The family dog also was killed and discovered in another room of the home.
