A woman who was injured by an alleged shooter who killed a Draper Police officer on Sunday has been arrested.
Unified Police, which has been investigating shooting death of Sgt. Derek Johnson, announced late Saturday that Traci Vaillancourt was arrested on suspicion of obstruction of justice. She was released from the hospital Saturday and booked into the Salt Lake County jail.
Police say Vaillancourt, 34, was shot by her boyfriend Timothy Troy Walker, 35, during the same episode in which Walker allegedly ambushed Johnson in Draper on the morning of Sept. 1.
Johnson, who was out on patrol, pulled up to the couple's Volvo, which was parked at an odd angle. Walker allegedly opened fire on Johnson while the officer was still in his vehicle. He also shot Vaillancourt, who was in the vehicle with him, and then shot himself, police say.
Vaillancourt and Walker had been recovering in the hospital since the shooting.
On Thursday, Vaillancourt was well enough to answer investigators' questions and had given three separate interviews before her arrest.
Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal said Vaillancourt gave statements that were inconsistent with physical evidence and that she added details that she hadn't mentioned in previous interviews. Police did not disclose what those inconsistencies were.
Despite her arrest Saturday, Hoyal said police still consider Vaillancourt a victim in Sunday's shooting.
Walker, who remained in serious condition on Saturday, has not been interviewed by police.
A funeral attended by thousands was held for Johnson on Friday at the Maverik Center in West Valley City. He was buried at Larkin Cemetery in Sandy.
