Warm weather, thunderstorms in Utah forecast for weekend
First Published Sep 07 2013 08:43 am • Last Updated Sep 16 2013 05:25 pm

After an apocalyptic-looking afternoon Friday — in which a stinky dust cloud settled over Salt Lake City — the weekend weather looks like it’ll be warm but typical.

The National Weather Service predicted high temperatures in the mid to upper 80s for much of northern Utah Saturday and Sunday. Those temperatures should persist through the work week, finally giving sweaty Utahns a respite from the summer’s seemingly-relentless, record-breaking heat.

Cities along the Wasatch Front also will see scattered thunderstorms Saturday evening and Sunday.

In southern Utah, weekend temperatures will mostly hover in the mid and lower 90s, though St. George may only see a high of 89 degrees Sunday. Forecasters also predict scattered thunderstorms in the southern part of the state.

Air quality will be a double edged sword over the weekend in Utah. While the Utah Division of Air Quality expects good air throughout the state, Intermountain Allergy and Asthma reports that there will be high or extremely high levels of grass, chenopods, sagebrush, ragweed and mold.

Forecasters expected Salt Lake City’s highs to reach 90 degrees Saturday and 85 degrees Sunday; Provo looked for 89 and 80 degrees, respectively; Ogden 86 and 82; Logan 86 and 82; Wendover, 83s; Duchesne 83 and 75; Cedar City 81 and 75; St. George 95 and 89; Park City 78 and 70; and Moab 96 and 91.
